Nineteen Seventy-Seven is an indie pop band from Toronto, Canada, lead by singer-songwriter Julie Kendall who first appeared in the Toronto music scene in 2005 playing keyboards with Bellevue. After recording two full-length albums and playing a number of shows in support, she left the band to finish and record songs she had started writing three years earlier. The self-produced collection of catchy numbers on her début album, offered in the order they were written, were recorded in the winter of 2007 by Julie and Brent Hough (Bellevue, Music Maul, Purple Hill) in their Toronto apartment and rehearsal space with Julie playing keyboards, guitar, and bass, Brent on guitar and bass, Jordan Bruce (Bellevue, Purple Hill) on drums, and Matthew Rubba (formally of The Airfields, Bellevue, and The Diableros) on bass, drums, and guitar. It was mixed by Alphonse Lanza at Parkdale Is Gay Studio and mastered by Noah Mintz at Lacquer Channel Mastering in Toronto. Cover art for Nineteen Seventy-Seven was created by Julie, using pieces of artwork from The Beach Boys album Love You (released in 1977), originally designed by graphic artist and Sixties surf band legend Dean Torrence (Jan and Dean) with his blessing.
