Land of Talk!
Wednesday 01 September, 2010
Land of Talk are a band that everyone is...well, talking about these days. Look no further than their brand new album Cloak and Cipher for the reason why. Check it out right here for only $8.88 and see what all the fuss is about!

New Luke Doucet
Tuesday 31 August, 2010
The brand new album from Luke Doucet is here. Produced by Sloan's Andrew Scott, this latest album powers its way to a more rock-flavoured sound from this seasoned Canadian rock veteran. The album is getting great reviews all around and you can grab it here today for just $8.88 on Zunior.

Ra Ra Riot
Friday 27 August, 2010
The new album from Ra Ra Riot is right here. PopMatters says "Ra Ra Riot embraces an unexpected and completely awesome influence on The Orchard: ‘80s Abacab-era Genesis, with its slick synthesizer patterns, rhythmic basslines, and monstrous, ornate drumming (courtesy of newcomer Gabriel Duquette) that ably recalls some of Phil Collins’ beastliest." Buy it for only $8.88 here

A Brand New Album from Rae Spoon
Thursday 19 August, 2010
The first release from Rae was a sleeper hit on Zunior.com. The brand new is called Love Is A Hunter and it definitely takes things up a notch. The acoustic side of Rae's earlier music is matched on some tracks with electronic layers inspired by time spent in Berlin. It is a compelling combination and the result will surely further raise the worldwide profile of this Canadian indie-rock hero. The album is only $8.88 on Zunior today.

New Moses Mayes and Baby Eagle
Tuesday 17 August, 2010
Yet another great Tuesday for new releases on Zunior. We've got a brand new funk bomb from Winnipeg-based Moses Mayes and quiet treat from Montreal's Baby Eagle. In the case of the new one from Baby Eagle, Hero Hill says "Dog Weather toes the line between folk and feedback, Pavement and Neil, as Lambke gladly puts toes in both pools. The chunkier riffs and distorted notes (“Haybale Song”) and even horns (“Thistle in Bloom”) balance desolate, Jon Swift drifter anthems like the beautiful “Dog Failure” and “Last Song of the Night” and really make Dog Weather a full record, not just sketches inspired by the same muse." Both albums are just $8.88 at Zunior today.

Scott Pilgrim Movie Out Today
Friday 13 August, 2010
If you love indie rock, comic books and maybe even Toronto, you should check the new Scott Pilgrim vs The World movie out today. The character was originally inspired by a song the Plumtree put out on this 7" single way back in 1996. It's funny how things go in the world of rock and it's great to see Plumtree on the official movie soundtrack also.

New Winchester Warm
Tuesday 10 August, 2010
We've got the brand new one from Winchester Warm. CBC Radio's Amanda Putz had a few great things to say about the band - "The surprise of the night was dynamic duo Winchester Warm. Jon Pearce on acoustic guitar/vocals and Matt Godin on drums/vocals was all this band needed to produce a tight, full-band sound. Having only heard a couple songs online within minutes I was smitten by their tandem vocals and emotive (but not mushy) lyrical sensibilities." Buy the album here for $8.88 today.

Did you know Mike O'Neill won a Gemini Award?
Wednesday 04 August, 2010
Yep, Mike won an award for his theme to the TV show French Food at Home. He's worked in film and TV for years doing live sound, theme music and even soundtracks. We thought you might like to see a recent photo of Mike to see what he looks like holding an award (photo by Mat Dunlap). You can get Mike's two solo albums What Happens Now and The Owl right here. Stay tuned for his brand new 13 song album called Wild Lines coming soon.

This week's new free sampler has another punchy collection of independent music for your summer enjoyment. Check out tracks from DVAS, Kathryn Calder, The Provincial Archive and more. The sampler is completely free so you just can't go wrong. Grab it right here today.

New EP from Sister (ex-Plumtree)
Friday 30 July, 2010
Carla and Lynette Gillis formed one-half of the classic Canadian indie band known as Plumtree. For this project, the band chose the name SISTER to honour each other and their family, particularly their sister Darlene who passed away in the summer of 2008. This self-titled EP is their debut. It is punchy, thoughtful, funky and warm. Buy the new Sister EP today for only $4.44.

Brand New Provincial Archive
Tuesday 27 July, 2010
This is one of our favourite bands at Zunior HQ. The new album called Maybe We Could Be Holy continues their tradition of creating banjo-fueled, sensitive/soulful indie rock. Even better, the album cover looks like a vintage blues LP or British invasion classic. A great summer album to add some additional sparkle to your summer bonfire tonight. Only $8.88 at Zunior.com.

New Local Rabbits Tribute and Baby Eagle
Thursday 22 July, 2010
We've got plenty of great new stuff this week including a very cool tribute to West Island Rockers, The Local Rabbits. Check out some scrunchy takes on classic songs like Sally Ann, The Lights Turn On and of course Soundboard Love. Baby Eagle also steps up to the plate with a brand new one called Dog Weather. As usual, all albums are only $8.88 on Zunior.com.

New Free Sampler Rocks
Monday 19 July, 2010
The brand new free sampler has tracks from some our favourite Zunior bands including Forest City Lovers, Selina Martin, The Wilderness of Manitoba and more. The sampler gives you a taste of the great music on Zunior.com...serving high quality Canadian digital independent music since 2004!

PS, We Really Do Love You
Wednesday 14 July, 2010
The debut EP from PS I Love You is amazing. Let this five song EP be your introduction to this awesome two-piece band from Kingston, Ontario. This EP essentially represents the 'man and a drum machine' version of the band before the full live drums and guitar combo was born. The songs are great and you should stay tuned for the full album coming out in the fall.

Debut Solo Album from Kathryn Calder of the New Pornographers
Friday 09 July, 2010
Kathryn Calder is known for her work first with Immaculate Machine, and recently with The New Pornographers. Her debut solo album is touching collection of tracks that pays homage to her mother, and highlights her skill as an artist with original ideas and an amazing voice. Even better, the album features guest appearances from her New Pornographers band-mates Kurt Dahle, Todd Fancey and Neko Case, as well as members of Ladyhawk and Frog Eyes. Buy the album today for only $8.88 on Zunior.com.

Scott Pilgrim and Plumtree
Tuesday 22 June, 2010
The new movie starring Michael Cera called Scott Pilgrim vs The World has a title (and comic book series) inspired by the Plumtree song called Scott Pilgrim. The song is available on this classic 1997 album, but originally came out on a 7" single on The Inbreds record label called PF Records. The soundtrack to the movie will feature that original 7" version of the song. Congrats to Plumtree on finally hitting Hollywood 10 years after their breakup.

We Say Die!, Young Galaxy, Yukon Blonde, Zeus. Search for albums from all these great artists right here at Zunior.com. Good luck to all the nominees.

New Crystal Castles (II)
Wednesday 16 June, 2010
We've got the new one right here for only $8.88 today. Pitchfork said - "That they play such hide and seek musically should've come as no surprise anyway; despite the fact that there's literally an Atari game named "Crystal Castles", they named themselves after a She-Ra playset, which is like finding out LeBron James chose to wear uniform number at #23 as a tribute to his favorite Jimmy Eat World song. Then again, it's fitting for a record that draws so much of its power from unpredictability."

Also, the album is on You've Changed Records, so you know it is going to be good. That label is like Pringles, you can't have just one. Buy Daniel's album today for only $8.88 on Zunior.

Brand New Justin Rutledge
Thursday 20 May, 2010
We've got the brand new one from Justin Rutlege right here. Eye Weekly says, "After naming his last album, ’08’s Man Descending, after a collection of Guy Vanderhaeghe’s short stories, CanLit buff Justin Rutledge sought songwriting help on The Early Widows from author Michael Ondaatje, and a few tracks are based directly on a character from Ondaatje’s novel, Divisadero. As a result, the fourth album by the local singer-songwriter is another powerful fusion of alt.country and literature." Pick up the album for only $8.88 today.

Ranee Lee Wins Jazz Juno
Wednesday 21 April, 2010
A big congratulation goes out to Montreal jazz vocalist Ranee Lee who, on Saturday night, learned she had won the coveted Juno Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year for her stunning release, Ranee Lee: Lives Upstairs. “That recognition really does give you the seal of approval”, says Ranee, who has recorded many albums with Montreal label, Justin Time. “I don’t believe the focus should be to win an award…But I think the award is the proof of the acceptance of the masses. It’s the key that keeps the door unlocked.” Check out the Juno-winning album right here for only $8.88.

Brand New Plants and Animals
Tuesday 20 April, 2010
People are buzzing about the new one from Montreal's Plants and Animals. Brad Wheeler from The Globe and Mail says - "“Something’s coming," forecasts singer-guitarist Warren Spicer on the chanting, peyote-dusted Undone Melody, “Something’s coming." La La Land, the grand, magical album from Montreal’s Plants and Animals, inspires this hallucination: A group of townsfolk eye the horizon, watching in awe as a gathering cloud of dynamic colours and blissful loud noise makes its way toward them. And then the din is upon them, around them, in a very great way. Psychedelic, amplified and momentous, songs are multifaceted, with a sense of Radiohead importance, Arcade Fire intensity and trčs cool dirty-basement rock and roll (American Idol gets my vote as the missing link between Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street). The trio’s last album, Parc Avenue, was nominated for the Polaris Prize. This new one should win it, and I’m not sure the voting should be all that close." Buy it here for only $8.88.

Brand New Album from Young Rival
Wednesday 14 April, 2010
Hamilton's Kinks? Here's what Eye Weekly said, "Now that the early-’00s garage-rock revival is behind us, Young Rival’s refined blend of Vines-era grunge and sunny, Kinksy pop-rock feels almost like it’s on the vanguard. This self-titled LP builds on the Hamilton outfit’s three-chord anti-establishment pop, adding more filth to their 2008 EP’s fury thanks to the rough-hewn production." A great banger for the summer of 2010 for only $8.88 here.

New Sally Seltmann
Sunday 11 April, 2010
Check out the brand new one from Sally Seltmann. The Onion AV Club says "No longer recording under the name New Buffalo, Australian singer-songwriter Sally Seltmann refreshes her sound on her third album, Heart That’s Pounding, perhaps trying to build on the momentum of “1234,” the Feist hit she co-wrote. Unlike New Buffalo’s stripped-down, at times downright bleak second album, Somewhere Anywhere, Heart That’s Pounding is largely upbeat, with an up-and-at-’em attitude exemplified by the shamelessly catchy “On The Borderline”. Only $8.88 here today.

Brand New Sampler
Monday 05 April, 2010
This week's sampler features tracks from Innes Wilson & His Opposition, The Skeletones Four, Drumheller and more. It even has a song from the musical project of Zunior's own Dave Ullrich called Egger. The sampler is completely free as always and you can grab it right here.

The movie was filmed by Zunior.com founder Dave Ullrich, and uses a series of interviews to shine a light on one of Canada’s greatest underground music icons. Click here to watch part 1 of 3!.
